MISC EXPANDS LNG CARRIER FLEET WITH THE NAMING OF SERI DIAN AND SERI DAYANG FOR SEARIVER MARITIME

On 7 May 2026, MISC marked another significant milestone in its LNG shipping journey with the naming of two new-generation LNG carriers, Seri Dian and Seri Dayang. The addition of these vessels further strengthens MISC’s longstanding partnership with SeaRiver Maritime (SRM), a wholly owned subsidiary of ExxonMobil, reflecting decades of collaboration in supporting the safe and reliable transportation of LNG across the global energy value chain.
The naming ceremony was graced by Mrs. Hanh Nguyen, who served as the Lady Sponsor for both vessels. The event was attended by representatives from ExxonMobil, SeaRiver Maritime, Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd., the project management team of QatarEnergy, classification society Lloyd’s Register, as well as senior management from across the MISC Group.
The names Seri Dian and Seri Dayang continue MISC’s longstanding Seri naming tradition, reflecting distinction, heritage and the enduring spirit of Malaysia’s maritime excellence. Dian, signifying radiant brilliance, and Dayang, representing elegance and grace, reinforce the symbolic identity of the fleet while carrying forward a legacy deeply rooted in national pride and maritime stewardship.
Constructed by Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd., the 174,000 cubic metre LNG carriers are equipped with advanced and energy-efficient technologies designed to enhance operational performance and environmental efficiency. These include the Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling (ICER) system and enhanced cargo containment systems with reduced boil-off rates, supporting safer, more efficient and reliable LNG operations across long-haul trade routes.
This milestone reflects MISC’s continued focus on disciplined growth and operational excellence in delivering energy safely, reliably and efficiently. More importantly, it underscores the strength of long-term partnerships that enable organisations to advance shared ambitions through collaboration, consistency and a steadfast commitment to operational reliability.

Beyond the addition of new vessels, the project reflects a strong collective commitment towards safety and operational discipline throughout the construction and delivery phase. As of 30 March 2026, the project achieved a cumulative two million safe manhours with Zero Lost Time Injury (LTI), underscoring the importance of strong collaboration and a shared safety mindset across all stakeholders involved.
With the addition of Seri Dian and Seri Dayang, MISC now operates four LNG carriers under long-term charter with SeaRiver Maritime, reflecting continued confidence in MISC’s ability to deliver safe, reliable and efficient LNG operations.

MISC AND PETRONAS STRENGTHEN 40-YEAR LEGACY WITH THE NEW LNG CARRIER FLEET


MISC has formalised a new phase of its collaboration with PETRONAS LNG Ltd. (PLL) through long-term time charter agreements for five new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. Signed at Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur on 11 May 2026, the agreements reflect the continued alignment between both organisations in advancing LNG shipping capabilities with a strong focus on reliability, operational performance and long-term value creation.
In parallel, MISC has also entered into shipbuilding contracts with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. for the construction of the five newbuild LNG carriers, with the agreements concluded in January 2026. Upon completion, the vessels will be chartered by PLL for a firm period of 20 years, with charter commencement expected between 2029 and 2030.
Each vessel will incorporate modern and efficiency-driven technologies aligned with evolving environmental and operational standards. These include the latest XDF2.1 propulsion technology, shaft generators to enhance fuel efficiency during voyages, and onboard reliquefication systems designed to effectively manage boil-off gas. Together, these capabilities are expected to support improved operational efficiency and environmental performance across long-term LNG operations.
The five LNG carriers will strengthen PLL’s global LNG portfolio, expanding delivery capability across key markets while supporting growing global energy demand. The project also reflects MISC’s continued focus on fleet modernisation and operational readiness in supporting long-term LNG transportation requirements.

MISC STRENGTHENS CARBON SHIPPING PORTFOLIO WITH NEWBUILD LCO2 CARRIERS FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS

As global decarbonisation efforts accelerate, carbon capture and storage (CCS) is emerging as a critical pathway to reduce industrial emissions at scale. A key enabler of this ecosystem is the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of captured carbon dioxide across borders, connecting emitters to permanent storage sites.
In this context, MISC, in partnership with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd, (K LINE), has secured a long-term Time Charter Party from Northern Lights JV DA on 29 January 2026. The contract supports the next phase of Europe’s first open-access CCS transport and storage project, marking MISC’s entry into the liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO₂) shipping segment.
This milestone reflects a deliberate step towards building capability in carbon logistics, an emerging area that will play an increasingly important role in enabling the energy transition. The vessel will be owned through a joint venture company between MISC and K LINE, reinforcing a partnership-based approach to developing specialised assets in new energy segments.
The project involves a purpose-built 12,000 cubic metre LCO₂ carrier designed to transportation of liquefied CO₂ from industrial capture sites to permanent offshore storage facilities in Norway. The vessel will complement Northern Lights’ existing fleet and support the project’s planned capacity expansion to serve additional commercial customers across Europe, contributing to the advancement of CCS as a viable solution for reducing emissions.
The LCO₂ carrier will be equipped with dual-fuel LNG propulsion, reinforcing MISC’s focus on safety, operational reliability and environmental performance, while aligning with evolving regulatory and decarbonisation standards.
Strengthening Position in Transition-Enabling Solutions
MISC’s participation in Northern Lights reflects its broader strategy to expand into low-carbon and transition-enabling maritime solutions.
